Prevention
in sight
Most eye conditions develop silently, without any symptoms. An eye health check reveals changes long before you can feel them.
The earlier, the better
prevention
Preventative eye screenings catch issues like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, before symptoms show. They protect your sight, support overall health, and help ensure clear, comfortable vision for life.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Skleo.
Why it's worth it
How is the Eye Health Check different from a free vision check?
A vision test measures how well you see – your visual acuity and whether you need glasses, for example. The Skleo Augengesundheits-Check, on the other hand, looks at the health of your eyes: a retinal image is analysed for 12 defined retinal markers that can indicate common eye conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, or diabetic retinal changes.
In short: a vision test checks how you see, the eye health check checks the health of your eyes. It’s the perfect complement – far more than a vision test.
Costs & health insurance
Isn't preventive eye care at the ophthalmologist covered by health insurance?
That’s a common misconception. Preventive eye care, such as the early detection of glaucoma, is usually a private-pay service, even at the ophthalmologist’s you’ll normally pay for it yourself, as long as there’s no specific suspicion of illness. So the Skleo Eye Health Check isn’t an extra hurdle – it makes exactly this kind of preventive care easy to access, with no waiting time, whether you’re covered by statutory or private health insurance. We already work together with statutory and private health insurers. It’s best to ask your insurer whether a partnership already applies to you.
Safety & Trust
Is early prevention worth it?
Yes, early prevention pays off. Many eye conditions can be addressed all the better the earlier they’re noticed: for conditions such as glaucoma or diabetic retinal changes, timely medical intervention can help preserve vision and slow its progression. Vision that has already been lost, on the other hand, usually can’t be restored – which is why timing is crucial. Early detection gives you exactly that room to act: the chance to respond before you notice anything yourself.
What's the difference between a finding and a diagnosis?
A finding is an indication; a signal that a marker on your retinal image deviates from the norm and is worth a closer look. It doesn’t mean you’re ill, but that it’s worth having the matter specifically checked by an ophthalmologist. A diagnosis, on the other hand, can only be made by a doctor as part of an ophthalmological examination. Only there is it determined whether a condition is actually present, and which one. So the eye health check shows you what to pay attention to, and deliberately doesn’t provide a final assessment. A normal result gives you peace of mind but doesn’t replace an ophthalmological examination – and a finding is no cause for concern, but your starting point for the next step.
Process
How long does it take?
On Average your eye health check is done in under 15 minutes. This time varies depending on the scope of your partner’s consultation.
Can I drive after the eye health check?
Yes. The check doesn’t use any pupil-dilating drops that would impair you. You can get straight back to your day right after the check.
I don't have an email address. How do I register and how do I receive my results report?
No problem: the eye health check works entirely without email and without pre-registration. At the optician’s: just call your preferred location directly, arrange an appointment, and ask about the price while you’re at it. At the drugstore, you can drop by without an appointment. In this case, you’ll receive your results report by post. It’s still ready within 24 hours as always, but is then sent by post. So it will take a little longer to reach you than digital delivery by email.
