The difference isn't in quality, it's in scope: the medical core of the check, the retina scan and the double reassurance of AI analysis and validation by a specialists, is exactly the same everywhere.

Your eye health check typically takes under 15 minutes. Depending on how much guidance our partner offers, this can vary slightly.
Yes. There are no drops, no needles, and no pupil dilation to worry about. You can go straight back to your day afterward.
No problem. The eye health check works fine without email or advance registration. At the optician: just call your preferred location directly, book an appointment, and ask about pricing there too. At the drugstore, you can simply walk in. In this case, you’ll receive your results report by post. It’s ready within 24 hours as usual, but sent by mail, so it’ll take a bit longer to reach you than an email would.

A visit to the optician checks how well you see, your prescription, for the right glasses. The eye health check looks at something different: the health of your retina. Many eye conditions develop over years without you noticing anything, and often without any change to your vision at first. So seeing well doesn’t automatically mean your eyes are in good health. Even if your last ophthalmologist visit wasn’t long ago, the check can still be worthwhile as a simple, regular check-in between visits.

To find out, your retina is photographed using medical equipment similar to what’s used in eye clinics. No eye drops, no pupil dilation. The images are then analysed by AI, and an ophthalmologist validates every AI-result. The check doesn’t diagnose or treat anything; it simply shows you, quickly and easily, whether a visit to the ophthalmologist makes sense. Many preventive eye exams are not uncommonly an out-of-pocket cost. So the Skleo eye health check isn’t an extra hurdle, it makes this kind of preventive care simple and accessible without the wait, whether you’re publicly or privately insured.
Right now, the eye health check is mostly paid out of pocket. But we’re actively working to make eye screening more accessible, and we’re building partnerships with health insurers to get there. It’s worth asking your insurer whether a partnership with us already applies to you. Our coverage is growing all the time.

Once vision is lost, it usually can’t be restored, which is exactly why timing matters so much. Early detection gives you that window: the chance to act before you’d notice anything yourself.
Yes. The check is carried out on-site by staff who are specially trained for it. Taking the retina image itself is an established, standardized procedure. What really matters is the second step: the evaluation isn’t left to technology alone. First, an AI analyzes the images; the AI-result is then validated by an ophthalmologist before it reaches you.
Yes, your privacy is protected. The check doesn’t happen out in the open, it takes place in a private, screened-off area, with no one else watching. We’re just as careful with your data: it’s processed securely and in full compliance with GDPR, and it’s never shared without your consent. That means you get the convenience of a check somewhere you’d visit anyway, without giving up any discretion.
